If you are a Veteran of the US Military and have a service connected disability rating of any level you may be elegible for related medical coverage in Mexico, including medications. The program is called the Veterans Administration Foreign Medical Program (FMP) and enrollment is free.

Everything from office visits to major hospitalizations and surgeries are eligible for coverage with NO cost to you for medical services directly related to your service connected conditions.

Easy and Rapid Enrollment Process

 

1) Do you have a copy of your VA Rating Letter? If YES then goto STEP 1

 

 

2) If NO then goto STEP 2 

 

Step 1-use this section if you aldready have a VA Rating Letter that specifically lists all of your service connected disabilities

Step 1: if you have a VA Rating Letter (also called a Narrative Evaluation) please upload it HERE  

 

 

Step 2-use this section if you do NOT have a VA Rating and wish to get a copy of your info from the VA

Step  2: If you do not have a VA Rating Letter (also called a Narrative Evaluation) then fill out this FORM  to get your free copy from the VA.

 

 

You may have access to your Rating Letter in your eGov account.

You can get an account here  www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/homepage  and your documentation should be available online. Please dowload a copy of your Rating Letter aka Narrative Evaluation and send us a copy.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 3-use this section if you are not yet enrolled into the VA Program that covers you in Mexico. This program is free and does not affect your VA Benefits in any way.

Your medical care directly related to your service connected disabilities could be 100% covered in Mexico from minor office visits to major medical needs. Many Veterans living in Ajijic and Chapala  and elswhere in Mexico are already elegible for the program but unaware of its benefits.

FAQ 

How does this program work?

The FMP is the Veterans Administration program which covers you in Mexico for medical care directly related to your service connected disabilities. The program is officially called the Veterans Administration Foreign Medical Program. There is no cost to join and registering does not change your VA benefits in anyway. There are no-copay or deductibles associated with your policy and there are NO out of pocket expenses for you in any way for medical services provided by us. Medication coverage is also included. Lakeside Medical Group will provide to you medical care, including hospitalizations, medications, office visits, diagnostics, labs etc that is directly related to you service connected disabilities. There is no cost to you.

Yes, usually most medications are covered if they are directly related to your service connected disability(s)

How do I get my medications?

You need to be enrolled with us first. Then you can apply to our pharmacy by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Medications can be picked up locally or we can send them to your home in Mexico depending on your location 

How can Lakeside Medical Group work with the VA?

We have agreements and contracts with over 400 different American insurance companies including the VA

Will my current VA benefits be affected?

No. Your current VA benefits will not be affected in any way. You are simply increasing your benefits that you are already entitled to.

What is a Rating Letter and how do I get it? 

A Rating Letter, also know as a Narrative Evaluation is a letter that the VA sends to you that specifically lists all of your service connected disabilities. You can apply for this letter in Section 2 or you can download it from your ebenefits account with the VA. Goto this link here provided by the VA and you can get all your VA info online www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/homepage 
 

What happens after I submit the enrollment forms?

We will send your forms to the VA at no cost to you. The VA will send you documentation to your address so as soon as you receive it please let us know. 

What if my spouse has ChampVA. Do you accept ChampVA?

Yes, we accept ChampVA

I am 64 years of age or older and I only have the VA service connected coverage. What else can cover me in Mexico.

If you are Medicare eligible and have Medicare Part A and B you can get a Medicare Advantage Plan for free and this will cover you for urgent care and emergencies.

I am younger than 64 years of age I only have the VA service connected coverage. What else can cover me in Mexico.

Your only option for coverage is to purchase insurance coverage if you want coverage above and beyond your service connected disability coverage. Please let us know if you would like some options that may be available to you
