Mexico has world-class healthcare facilities and is quite affordable to live in as compared to its immediate neighbors. It is highly advanced and affordable at the same time, which is one of the reasons why expats choose Mexico for healthcare services.
Mexico has some of the finest medical institutions in the country, both in public and private sectors. The expats prefer to rely on the private healthcare system because of better and high-class medical facilities, the latest technology, modern rooms, and also the shorter waiting time, which the public hospitals do not provide.
All the expats are recommended to get an international health insurance plan before arriving in Mexico. This helps in reducing the unnecessary burden that can arise anytime due to uncertainties.
Here’s an overview of the Mexican healthcare system -
In Mexico, the healthcare system works at three different levels.
- First level - Also, known as the lower level. It is a limited coverage system that caters to the needs of unemployed Mexicans. It includes hospitals that provide primary care.
- The second level - It is the national healthcare program for the public sector which is funded in equal proportion by the employees and employers. It has hospitals that have 4 specialties - Surgery, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Gynaecology/Obstetrics
- The third level - It includes healthcare assistance from private hospitals and clinics. It includes various other subspecialties and the hospitals in this are referred to as “Medical unit of healthcare”.
ICU is placed in second and third-level hospitals.
